Common Causes of Coughing
The most common ailments where coughing may be a symptom include:
Common Cold - Highly contagious, where the mucus membranes of the nose and throat become inflamed. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, chest / nasal congestion or watery runny nose.
Flu - Similar symptoms to a common cold, however includes a fever, often with all over body aches and pains.
Coughing may also be associated with more serious conditions, such as bronchitis, where an infection is present. Early indication of an infection being present is if the mucus is no longer clear, and starts to look yellow or green in colour. If this occurs, seeking treatment from a doctor is advised.
