Why do we cough?
Coughing is one of the body's natural functions. When we cough, air is expelled from the lungs at a speed of up to
960 km per hour!

The purpose of normal coughing is to keep the airways and lungs clear of excessive mucus, and foreign particles such as dust. Without the coughing reflex our bronchial tubes (the tiny air passages that criss-cross the lungs), would become clogged with mucus.

The onset of the cooler winter months can herald the increase of ailments such as the common cold, flu and other more serious conditions of which coughing is a symptom, and can be considered a problem.

It is important to understand what sort of cough is experienced, before reaching for a treatment option.
