Cold and Flu

Do you have a sore throat and blocked nose?
Is your temperature up?
Got a headache, feeling tired and miserable?

Symptoms of the common cold

  • Runny nose
  • Blocked nose and sinus congestion
  • Sneezing and sore throat
  • Cough
  • Mild fever

It might be called common, but having a cold is still exceptionally unpleasant. The common cold is caused by a viral infection and last about a week

If you develop a more severe fever, sore and swollen glands or a chesty cough with yellow or green mucus you may have a bacterial infection, which may require antibiotic treatment. Visit your doctor for advice.

Main Symptoms of the flu

  • Muscle aches and tiredness
  • High fever (> 38,5°C)
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy nose

Influenza,or the flu, can start very quickly and make you feel even worse than a cold which makes it very hard to follow your daily activities. The symptoms are very similar to a common cold with two main differences: the symptoms are more severe than with a common cold and temperature usually reaches more than 38,5°C.

It is important to say that there is nothing that can cure a heavy cold or flu immediately, so you would need an effective medicine that treats the symptoms and is helping you to carry on with your daily activities. See your pharmacist for advice.

Children can suffer from cold and flu frequently as they grow up:

Their immune system is still maturing. Symptoms are the same for children and adults. It is important to remember that complications from cold or flu infections can be dangerous for children. Always contact your healthcare professional if your child’s temperature reaches 38°C or above.
